7 Days Tanzania Wildlife Safari & Lake Victoria Visit

Safari in national parks: Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Victoria and Serengeti Np

This 7-day Northern Tanzania safari itinerary offers a journey through iconic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and cultural connections—ending at the shores of Lake Victoria. Starting in Arusha, you’ll head into Tarangire National Park, renowned for its massive elephant herds and baobab-studded scenery. From there, descend into the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater before heading into the endless plains of the Serengeti for big cat encounters and thrilling game drives. Continue west to Lamadi, a quiet gateway to Lake Victoria, and end the journey with a visit to local fishing communities in Mwanza. This itinerary is ideal for those looking for a less-traveled route that blends classic safari adventures with a touch of lakeside culture before flying out from Mwanza.

Trip Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver-guide will welcome you and transfer you to your lodge or hotel in Arusha. Take this day to rest from your journey and prepare for the exciting safari ahead. If time allows, you may choose to explore Arusha town, visit a local market, or relax at the lodge with Mount Meru views. In the evening, your guide will provide a briefing on the safari plan. Dinner and overnight in Arusha.

  • Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – Overnight in Karatu

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park—famous for its large elephant population, ancient baobabs, and seasonal river. Enjoy a full-day game drive with chances to spot lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and hundreds of bird species. Have a picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your wildlife exploration in the afternoon. Later, exit the park and drive to the cool highlands of Karatu, near Ngorongoro. Dinner and overnight in a cozy lodge in Karatu.

  • Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Drive to Serengeti National Park

Start early and descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called “Africa’s Eden.” Spend the morning spotting rhinos, lions, hippos, and flocks of flamingos on the crater floor. After a picnic lunch, ascend the crater and drive to the Serengeti via the scenic Naabi Hill Gate. Enjoy game viewing along the way before arriving at your camp in central Serengeti. Dinner and overnight in the heart of the wild.

  • Day 4: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

Spend a full day on safari in the world-famous Serengeti. Depending on the season, you may witness parts of the Great Migration or encounter resident wildlife such as leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and vast herds of wildebeest and zebras. Choose between a full-day drive with picnic lunch or morning and afternoon drives with a break at camp. Optional hot air balloon safari available in the early morning (at extra cost). Dinner and overnight in Serengeti

  • Day 5: Serengeti to Lamadi – Western Corridor Transition

After breakfast, begin your journey toward the western Serengeti corridor, where the landscape transitions into rolling plains and acacia woodlands. Enjoy game viewing en route as you leave Serengeti National Park and head to Lamadi, a peaceful town near Lake Victoria. Arrive in the afternoon and check in to your lodge near the lakeshore. Relax for the evening or take a short village walk. Dinner and overnight in Lamadi.

  • Day 6: Lake Victoria Visit – Transfer to Mwanza

In the morning, visit Lake Victoria—the largest lake in Africa and a vital resource for local fishing communities. Learn about traditional fishing techniques, visit a local market, and enjoy the calm scenery. You may opt for a short boat ride or bird-watching activity along the lake. After lunch, drive to Mwanza, Tanzania’s second-largest city and an important port town on the lake’s southern edge. Dinner and overnight in Mwanza.

  • Day 7: Departure from Mwanza Airport

Depending on your flight time, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and, if time allows, explore Mwanza’s rocky landscapes and Sukuma culture. Later, transfer to Mwanza Airport for your departure flight. This marks the end of your unforgettable Northern Tanzania and Lake Victoria safari experience.
